One big consumer trend we’re seeing today is the love of new technologies such as AI, Alexa, Shopify and even robots to assist in just about everything from creating a presentation in Canva, to face recognition security, to shopping online.  Consumers, even when trepidatious, feel this makes everything faster, more efficient and smarter.

So, it makes sense that today’s consumers are also demanding their hair care product and ingredient technology follow suit.

Now juxtapose this with today’s Fall 2024 hair trends which harken back to the 1990’s, with everything from sleek styled micro bangs to solid colored blunt bobs.  The hair and even clothing popular today makes us think we’re living a real-life episode of Friends or channeling our inner Mia Wallace of Pulp Fiction.

At Philip Pelusi, we marry this 90’s rebirth with what we feel is our smarter hair care technology to date. “Alexa, help, I need micro bangs with Einstein’s IQ, stat!”

Let’s Be Blunt

2024 is considered the Year of the Bob by many beauty blogs.  Although one could argue the 1990’s would hold this honor.  One look that we find most intriguing is the 90’s bob revival of the Blunt Bob, now coined by some as the Prada Bob.  We especially love this cut when paired with Blunt Micro Bangs, once made famous when worn in the 90’s era by super model Linda Evangelista among others.  We love this bold striking look, the sleek styling, and strong shape especially when paired with buttercream blonde hair color.

The look can be worn with or without the micro bangs but we feel this makes the chin length haircut even more eye catching.  What’s paramount to this look is healthy, shiny hair, critical to create the final look and movement of the hair.  This is where new technology can take hair health to a whole new level.  So we have been recommending our Tela Beauty Organics by Philip Pelusi Liquid IQ Smart Bond Pro Treatment during salon visits and its companion Tela Beauty Organics by Philip Pelusi Liquid IQ Smart Bond Elixir as an at-home maintenance product.

Tela Liquid IQ is a hair restructure marvel that skillfully transforms hair through a deep renewal process, unveiling revitalized, stronger, healthier hair.  Tela Liquid IQ reinforces the internal bond structure within the hair cortex resulting in improved strength and elasticity that is more resilient and less prone to breakage.  Hair styles more easily and lasts longer.  So you can see how Liquid IQ elevates the overall quality of the hair but also the value of the Stylist’s hair artistry.

Behind the scenes in developing these products, we discovered a unique “Gemini” Surfactant, a biosimilar ingredient relative to natural ceramides.  It uniquely creates a very fine emulsion capable of delivering not only beneficial natural lipids but also can be combined with keratins and other well-known bonding actives by chaperoning them rapidly deep within the hair shaft.  Hence, we describe this action as our Philip Pelusi Chaperone Delivery System.

In addition, the likeness of the chaperone molecule to both cosmetic lipids and polypeptides allows it to move quickly and throughout all the major structural components of hair.  This results in chaperoning water-soluble bonding agents, restructuring polymers moisture binding agents, and color protectants throughout hair’s structure from cuticle to cortex.

We feel this is a truly revolutionary advancement in hair treatment, because for the first-time restructurizing agents are fully presented; including hair bond multipliers best delivered to cortex structures, conditioning and structural polymers reinforce damaged keratin, and conditioning and structural amino acids, polypeptides and moisture binders restructure keratin microfibrils.  Bottom line, Tela Liquid IQ dramatically improves the feel, look, and performance of hair.

We note some definite differences between the in-salon and take-home products as far as potency and fragrance.  The in-salon Tela Liquid IQ Smart Bond Pro Treatment is fragrance-free and has a heightened potency and increased concentration of about 5 times more effective than Tela Liquid IQ Smart Bond Elixir

This retail formulation was purposely created to maintain results in between your Guest’s in-salon Tela Liquid IQ Pro Treatments.  It differs than the pro version in that it is intentionally designed to have a consumer-friendly lower potency level.  Plus it contains the signature Tela Peppermint fragrance.  This effective ingredient is great for calming the scalp and the senses.

Uniquely, both Liquid IQ products are so easy to use.  We have found this is beyond appealing to both today’s Stylists and Guests.  You simply apply the proper amount of Tela Liquid IQ Elixir and move through onto clean, conditioned hair from root to end, do not rinse.  Next, layer on any styling products the texture requires, and begin the heat styling process which activates the ingredients.

To customize for styling the sleek look of the Blunt Bob with Micro Bangs, apply a heat protectant product that gives the hair a super reflective shine.  We are recommending a few mists of our P2 by Philip Pelusi BrilliantHair.  A little goes a long way.  Its USDA Certified Organic Baobab Oil helps protect, hydrate and add lustrous shine.  P2 BrilliantHair is never heavy, stiff or sticky.  Hair is easily blown out smooth and hair swings and moves showing off the haircut.

P2 BrilliantHair can be applied to wet or dry hair of any texture for instant shine.  And for thicker texture blowouts, a little trick is to mist this product on your paddle or boar bristle brush.  This helps cut down styling time and tension as the brush much more easily glides through the hair.

Buttercream Blonde

We are also featuring a popular hair color trend for Fall 2024: Buttercream Blonde.  It’s a very light blonde but tonally much richer looking than a straight up double processed, violet based, cool blonde hair color.  The gold undertones of a Buttercream Blonde almost spark and shimmer, reflecting and catching the light better for gleaming shine.

The look is richer and glossy and we believe looks best when blown out smooth which is a perfect match to this season’s other hair trends.  To help create this bright and shiny look we are again recommending smart products to do the work once left to topical styling products.  We are applying our Tela Liquid IQ Elixir topped with our Tela Beauty Organics by Philip Pelusi Color Lock+ as the dynamic duo for color protection.

The aforementioned bond rebuilding chaperon emulsions mend broken or weak spots while reducing the impact of color and chemical treatments, heat styling, and environmental stressors making each strand stronger.  These long-lasting effects contribute to the overall health and longevity of the hair with sustained improvement in shine, texture, and appearance.

Tela Liquid IQ uniquely creates a weightless protective barrier around the hair cuticle, making your hair more resistant to future damage and helping shield hair from UV rays and pollution.  This barrier plus the bond rebuilding emulsions improve the exterior and internal integrity of the hair after treatment.  Translation, longer lasting color service results that increases the value of this investment to today’s consumer.

To the ingredient mix, we also added our the proprietary Tela Hair Matrix Blend, Restoring and Regenerating Blends infused with antioxidants, anti-irritants, and nourishing superfruits.  Naturals such as Matricaria, Asafetida, Sage, Horseradish, Grapeseed, Blackberry, Reishi Mushroom, Horsetail, Burdock and Pomegranate serves as Antioxidants, Ultra-Violet Ray Filters, Strengthening Proteins, and Weightless Moisturizers.  These help protect the scalp and hair color and strength against harmful conditions plus they help fortify hair and scalp for optimal performance.

Sleek Styling

Another 90’s throwback trend for Fall 2024 is Sleek Styling.  This doesn’t mean that natural texture is now passé’, as it is now thankfully a mainstay style.  But a Sleek Styling blowout really shows off the bold shape of the Blunt Bob with Blunt Micro Bangs.  So again, we feel advanced technology supports this style.  Our Tela Liquid IQ makes styling easier with better results by smoothing and sealing the cuticle for reducing tangling and increased smoothness and reflective shine.

The Sleek Styling trend can be worn in glossy blowout or styled back of the face with either a pliable or stiff feel to the hair.  So to customize products for a pliable sleek style, we recommending topping our Liquid IQ with P2 by Philip Pelusi Polish.  This rich think glossy formula also contains USDA Certified Organic Baobab Oil but in a much higher concentration level.  This purposely gives the hair a little more weight so we recommend reserving this product for thick, medium or any density of coarse or thick hair.

Additionally, this combination works when combing damp almost wet hair sleek and smooth back off the face, another echo from the 90’s.  Long hair also can easily wear this trend by slicking all of part of the hair back into a bun.  Hair should be styled so smooth it appears borderline wet.  So if a slick but firm look is desired, we are reaching for an ultra-firm gel such as our unique P2 by Philip Pelusi Hard Stuff.  A bonus is its incredible Lemon Grass fragrance.

And speaking of sleek and shiny, when formulating Tela Liquid IQ we purposely packaged both products uniquely in glass bottles.  Of course, not every haircare formula or ingredient requires glass packaging, actually most products don’t.  But Liquid IQ’s ingredients are so distinct and delicately blended that we stipulated glass packaging to preserve the product’s potency and integrity.  This plus the chaperone molecule’s ability to complex with and protect active peptides and lipids from degradation while within our Liquid IQ’s glass bottle packaging until they are activated by heat in the styling process, is why the IQ formula inside stay 100% potent and effective until the last drop.

Glass bottles are odorless and non-porous and as a result considered foolproof packaging.  To make an analogy, this is why wine is almost exclusively packaged in glass bottles.  Glass preserves the wine’s quality, taste and longevity.  Glass bottles are more expensive but when needed, are well worth it.  And we believe these formulas are like a fine wine, good to the last drop.
